Steel Fabricator — Heavy Components, Tight Space

How a Dutch production facility transformed internal transport of heavy semi-finished products.

Imagine moving components weighing 10,000 kg or more, repeatedly, through a tight production hall. No room for a forklift. No overhead crane available. Every transfer becomes a puzzle — one that takes creativity, time and, above all, risk.

That was the daily reality for one of our customers. “We were constantly improvising,” the production manager told us. “Every time we had to move a heavy semi-finished product, it cost us hours and created unsafe situations.”

The brief

Move components of 10,000 kg and above, repeatedly, through a hall where standard handling equipment cannot operate — without compromising safety, without disrupting production, and without permanent infrastructure changes.

The configuration

A 25-tonne HULCK Mover with differential steering and wireless remote control. The configuration delivers:

  • Manoeuvrability where a forklift cannot go. Differential steering lets the Mover turn on the spot and follow S-curves without any mechanical steering linkage. The same hall that had no room for a forklift had plenty of room for the Mover.
  • Wireless safety. The operator stays at a safe distance via wireless remote control. Variable speed (0–25 m/min) makes millimetre-accurate positioning possible.
  • 25,000 kg load capacity. Enough for the heaviest semi-finished products in the hall — without the swept area a towed vehicle would require. Heavier configurations and lifting platforms are available; this operation did not need them.
  • Fewer moving parts. No mechanical steering linkage means less maintenance and high reliability in a hall that runs every day.

The result

The improvisation is over. Transfers that used to consume hours are now routine. The production manager: “The difference is night and day. From a stressful, time-consuming operation to a smooth, safe process.”

Anyone on the floor can operate the Mover. Heavy semi-finished products move when production needs them to move, not when the hall happens to have a route clear.
