How Konings Staal improved working conditions on the production floor.



Konings Staal, a metal processing company based in Roosendaal (Netherlands), specialises in the wholesale of steel products — beams, bars, strips — combined with in-house processing services such as sawing, shearing, drilling and hot-dip galvanising. As the business grew, so did an internal safety problem.
For internal transport of long steel beams and profiles through the production hall, a diesel-powered cart was used. The choice carried two real risks: diesel fumes inside a closed production environment, and travel speeds that became unsafe in shared workspaces where staff were operating around the cart.
For a company that supplies steel constructors, builders and installers — and where processing accuracy is non-negotiable — compromising on workplace safety was not an option.
The brief
The management of Konings Staal looked for an internal transport solution that would:
- Eliminate diesel emissions inside the production hall
- Create a safer working environment for staff
- Be capable of transporting long, heavy steel products
- Integrate with the existing production process without disruption
The configuration
A HULCK Mover with battery-electric drive and a custom load floor with insertable stanchions. The configuration delivers:
- Safer air. No diesel emissions inside the hall. Healthier working environment, reduced long-term health risk for staff.
- Controlled speed. Variable speed control allows the Mover to travel at the safe pace the floor actually requires — not the speed the operator imposes.
- Specialised load floor. The custom floor with insertable stanchions is designed specifically for long steel beams and profiles. No improvisation, no sliding loads.
- Lower running cost and lower noise. Battery-electric drive is quieter than diesel and reduces operational cost over the lifetime of the equipment.
The result
Konings Staal eliminated diesel emissions from the production hall and created a measurably safer working environment. The transport routine, previously a constant balance between speed and safety, is now a routine process. Long steel products move through the hall on a controlled, repeatable path — and the production schedule is no longer at the mercy of the cart.
